26 MLB Players and Managers with College Education

by yersh on Mar.10, 2010, under Kids

Last year I heard a crazy reference to this and at first was surprised.  After considering it makes sense.  There was a WSJ article about it last year.

Who Has the Brainiest Team in Baseball? – WSJ.com.

Though I have no idea if my boys will have a chance to play professionally right out of high school, if they can I will encourage it.  Why not give it a shot?  If you have the skills to play professional baseball you are a good enough athlete to get a football scholarship somewhere if baseball does not pan out.

I made the mistake of trying to rush through college to get to “real life”.  Play while you can boys, play while you can.

Cats and Dogs as Food.

by yersh on Mar.09, 2010, under Uncategorized

So I saw this article on CNN (Go to it here)
about a market in China where Cats and Dogs are sold for meat. This made me ask the question; what makes it appropriate to eat an animal? What differentiates cattle and hogs from cats and dogs. I have heard it said that pigs are clever and many people keep pigs as pets. Certainly many a 4H participant has cried themselves to sleep as thier prize steer was taken to slaughter. Is thier a signifigant difference in intelligence from cattle and hogs to dogs and cats? I do not know. What type of intelligence would you measure to make this determination? Again no idea but I am sure someone wrote a dissertation on it somewhere. It seems to me that it is purely a social construct. People in the United States keep dogs and cats as pets and attribute human characteristics to them. Therefore people in the US find it unsettling to think of dogs and cats as food.

This commercial is excellent. If I hadn’t just switched to Dove Body wash I would be on the old spice wagon.
