Life changes dramatically in instants. Have you ever thought about the capacity that you posses as a person? The real unbounded capacity that is possible through narrow focus?
We seem to surreptitiously place limitations on our capabilities.

I say take the risk. C.S Lewis says in His Book the Problem of pain:
“We can rest contentedly in our sins and in our stupidities, and everyone who has watched gluttons shoveling down the most exquisite foods as if they did not know what they were eating, will admit that we can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

Though I disagree with Lewis that the origination of pain is God, his observation is insightful. Pain is a megaphone. A megaphone that cleanses the mediocrity out of nature. Only the species that risk survive. Those that avoid risk starve or fall to predation.

People are no different. Risk is mitigated in every possible way in our culture.  The amazing thing is that most of the people we see as icons, innovators, and leaders took and take risks.

Pain has a terminal velocity.  Why not jump from a plane and not the stairs?
